40 % fewer screws - and a "saved" exhibition stand

As one of the world's leading intralogistics companies, the KION Group is committed to fully and strategically integrating sustainability into its core business. We are following this path with many large and small steps. Here are a few examples.

Eight examples that show: At KION we think sustainably

By reducing waste, reducing the variety of parts, recycling used products and installing photovoltaic systems on the roof, the KION Group's brands and locations are helping to make us a more sustainable company.

In 2023, the KION Group committed to the goals of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We are thus committed to the long-term climate target of achieving 'net zero' greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest. The associated key figures and strategic areas of action can be found in our Non-financial Report 2023 and Sustainability Insights 2023 .

However, there are also many location- or brand-specific measures that are implemented locally and demonstrate the commitment of our employees around the world. And there are a few interesting facts and examples:

99% of a forklift truck can usually be recycled. Of course, this does not only apply to the forklift trucks manufactured by the KION Group brands - but it is still an astonishingly high figure. But does a forklift truck ever actually have to be recycled? In any case, everything is done to extend its life cycle, as the next example shows.

Every year, our Linde MH brand reconditions 15,000 used trucks for reuse in regional refurbishment centers - the largest of which is located in Velké Bílovice in the Czech Republic. The refurbished trucks are offered as "Approved Trucks" with modularly selectable function packages.

139 tons of waste have been collected and recycled by employees at KION's Xiamen site in the Chinese province of Fujian since 2017 to date (financial year 2023) during voluntary work in the office area. This is roughly equivalent to the weight of six fully loaded overseas containers!

Our KION brand Dematic was able to save 20% of the waste generated worldwide in 2023 (compared to previous years) - primarily by improving processes at the production sites.

179,000 kilowatt hours per year are produced by the 500 solar panels of the new photovoltaic system installed at STILL Sweden's main site in Malmö in 2023 - that is more than the site itself needs. With the same amount of energy, an electric car could drive around the world 22 times. The electricity generated is used to charge forklift trucks, cars and various other devices.

40 % - this is an astonishing reduction in the number of screw parts in a new forklift truck model from our Linde MH brand. This was achieved simply by using a small so-called "combination screw" with washer, which was able to replace some of its predecessors. Less parts diversity means easier assembly - and fewer spare parts that need to be kept in stock and delivered for maintenance.

650 kilograms of material were "rescued" from the STILL stand after the Logimat 2024 trade fair. To this end, our subsidiary cooperated with a start-up company specializing in this area. Materials such as wood, metal, floor coverings and textiles that were not suitable for reuse in trade fair or event construction were passed on to charitable organizations in the region for further use.

We save 90 metric tons of CO2 per month in the KION Azure data centers (a global network of large Microsoft data centers for the provision of cloud services) compared to conventional data centers - this is roughly equivalent to driving 350,000 kilometers in a conventional car. Per month!

These examples show: Our brands and employees worldwide are aware that we have a high level of responsibility when it comes to sustainability. Wherever possible, we save resources or look for ways and means to improve our carbon footprint - with many small and large steps.
